Australia at war
Australia joined World War 2 on September 3rd, 1939 after the Prime Minister at the time, Robert Gordon Menzies, announced Australia was at war with Germany. The second World War can be considered the worst in modern history with high numbers of horrific casualties due to the advanced weaponry of the time. Many Australian soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice during WW2 in various conflicts throughout the war.
"Fellow Australians, it is my melancholy duty to inform you officially, that in consequence of a persistence by Germany in her invasion of Poland, Great Britain has declared war upon her and that, as a result, Australia is also at war. No harder task can fall to the lot of a democratic leader than to make such an announcement." - Robert Gordon Menzies
